Soneva, a world leading sustainable luxury resort operator founded in 1995, believes business must exist for a greater purpose than just shareholder returns.
Soneva Fushi and Soneva Jani, located on a remote island setting in the Maldives with no municipal utilities, rely on self-sufficient power and water systems.
While most Maldivian islands use diesel generators, in January 2024, Soneva Fushi and Soneva Jani installed a combined 5.2MWp solar PV and 4.7MWh battery systems, supplying 40% of our electricity needs. This substantial 1.6 million litre reduction in diesel consumption per year cuts direct carbon emissions by 40%, marking a significant step toward sustainability.
The solar PV installation underscores our commitment to environmental stewardship and demonstrates that sustainable practices are not only environmentally responsible but also make sound business sense.
